Sizewell beach and dunes on the Suffolk coast

Quiet coast, big skies

Holiday Cottages Near Sizewell

Sizewell is best known for the power stations, but the coast around it is one of the quietest, wildest stretches in Suffolk — long flat sand, dunes, RSPB Minsmere immediately to the south, and the village of Eastbridge with one of the best pubs in the county.

Our cottages near Sizewell are leisure stays — proper holiday homes for guests, not contractor accommodation. (We do contractor stays separately on a dedicated page; the two don't overlap.)

If you want the Suffolk Coast without the August crowds, this is the area. Minsmere is world-class for birds, Dunwich Heath is purple in August, and the beach at Sizewell is almost always empty.

What to do near Sizewell

RSPB Minsmere — one of the top three reserves in the UK. Allow a full day. Visitor centre, café, hides, family trails.

Dunwich Heath (National Trust) — heathland walks, the famous café at the coastguard cottages, coastal views.

Eel's Foot, Eastbridge — pub on the edge of Minsmere. Folk nights, dogs welcome, walk-back-to-the-cottage perfect.

Sizewell beach itself — long, flat, quiet. Avoid the very northern section near the power station fence.

Where to eat

The Eel's Foot, Eastbridge — proper pub, good food, regular live music.

Sizewell Tea — beach café for tea and cake after a walk.

Drive 5 minutes to Leiston for Sole Bay Fish Co's Leiston outpost, and The White Horse.

Aldeburgh and its restaurants are 15 minutes south — easy dinner-out distance.

Sizewell C — what to expect

Construction is north of Sizewell village, with a defined boundary. The coast south (toward Minsmere and Dunwich) is unaffected — that's where we place leisure guests.

Traffic on the B1122 can be busier at shift-change times. Most of our leisure cottages are accessed off other roads.

We're very upfront about which cottages are near the construction zone (we wouldn't put a leisure guest in one) and which are well clear.

Frequently asked

Questions guests ask us

Is Sizewell a nice place for a holiday?

The coast around Sizewell — Minsmere, Dunwich Heath, Eastbridge, the dunes — is genuinely one of the best stretches of the Suffolk Coast for wildlife and quiet walks. We base leisure guests south of the village, away from the power-station construction.

Will the Sizewell C construction affect my stay?

Not in the cottages we choose for leisure stays. We deliberately don't list leisure cottages within sight or sound of the construction zone — that's all on our contractor-accommodation page.

Is the beach safe to swim at?

Yes — long flat sand, no big rip tides. Lifeguards in peak summer at the main section.

Are there shops in Sizewell?

Minimal — Sizewell Tea on the beach. For shopping, drive 5 minutes to Leiston (Co-op, butcher, baker) or 15 minutes to Aldeburgh.

Is the area dog-friendly?

Very. Dogs off-lead on the beach year-round (avoid the power-station fence section). The Eel's Foot welcomes dogs in the bar.

How far is Aldeburgh?

About 15 minutes by car, or a long beach walk south.
