Leiston is the practical, slightly under-the-radar choice. A working Suffolk town with proper shops, a pleasant high street, and brilliant access to the coast (Sizewell, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness), to RSPB Minsmere and to Snape Maltings, all 10–15 minutes away.
If you're after a base that costs a little less than the coastal villages but puts you in striking distance of all of them, Leiston is genuinely one of the most efficient choices on the coast.
