Leiston is the practical, slightly under-the-radar choice. A working Suffolk town with proper shops, a pleasant high street, and brilliant access to the coast (Sizewell, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness), to RSPB Minsmere and to Snape Maltings — all 10–15 minutes away.
If you're after a base that costs a little less than the coastal villages but puts you in striking distance of all of them, Leiston is genuinely one of the most efficient choices on the coast.
Cottages in Leiston tend to have proper parking, gardens, and are walkable to a Co-op, butcher and baker — which makes self-catering easy.

Leiston is the main town serving the project, so there's more traffic at shift-change times than there used to be. We choose cottages on quieter streets and away from the main routes.
